911 "invention"
Hooey. I think these people must be smoking something.
Using the PSTN for 911 has only been standard since VOIP was invented, about 10 years now. All Gateways and IP enabled PBXs did it and do it. Having a PSTN line for backup is a really really original idea.
It appears they dont know the difference between an application, a feature, a capability, a copyright or real intellectual property. Seems the ZDN article writers were hoodwinked also.
