I think that everyone is kind of missing the boat. If VOIP is looking to replace the Plain Old Telephone System (POTS), why would the solution be to transfer the call over to that going to be dead system? The better solution to me is to use this great new network to pass even more information. In addition to just providing a phone number, how about supplying 911 operators with the GPS coordinates of the phone AND the address of the location making the call. It seems like telecom companies are just clawing at anything to see if they can delay the VOIP wave until they have a solution.
