Two reasons this is important for Cisco
1. They had to stop the market share slide. Juniper and
others beat them to the "clustering" router, and they
siphoned off some of Cisco's market share. Cicso has to
provide an end-to-end solution and compete with the
upstarts, and this router allows them to do it. It might not
turn much profit early on, but Cisco has billions of dollars
in the bank.

2. They had to have IPv6 compatability for the international
market. The US has half the IP addresses in the world, but
as Internet access grows abroad, the rest of the world is
running out of IP addresses. All those companies with
older equipment will have to upgrade to IPv6 someday soon
-- and Cisco can now compete for that business more
effectively. The timing of this release is critical to their
future.
