Win\Win does not mean no one loses
It's really quite simple. Competition causes one or the other to lose if other is to gain. This is what makes competition work. You strive to out do your competition by providing a better product preferably.

In the case of cartels and monopolies it's the consumer that loses as there is no drive to put out a better product and they control the price. Such example exist in the case of diamonds, a common stone that we pay large sums of cash for. I'd say that everytime a new exploration discovers diamonds the consumer loses as the laws of supply and demand are manipulated by corporations with vested interests in keeping the price high by releasing diamonds slowly.

The same goes for oil and gas. Having SKY oil and gas prices just hurts the consumer and that is a loss. The high prices aren't because of supply and demand. The supply is there to meet the demand if it allowed but OPEC (a cartel) controls how much is released at anytime drive prices up. This bogus line about gas prices being high because of refineries not being able to produce it fast enough is bunk.
