Well, to anybody with brains, they do look stupid.
But there are only so many programmers they can put on Longhorn. After a certain point, more programmers makes a project later. So, it might not distract them too much to put some new hires on cluster computing. They are in an all out war to deny Linux a critical mass on the desktop, and if all clusters run Linux, and you want to connect desktop applications to clusters, that could give help desktop Linux.

Well, I don't think that Microsoft can deny Linux a critical mass on the desktop, they have made way too many enemies. But, it would be worth every penny of the 50 billion they have in the bank if they could.
