the server doesn't just sit there

first of all i want to agree with what the lad before me said. a server doesn't just sit there. the server can sit idle or work full throttle. if the server is idle it means you spent to much money on it.

about the core 2 duo. it may be stronger than athlon x2 but it's also more expensive. i myself use a athlon 3000+ and i'm very pleased with it because it's relatively strong, it stays cool and it's economic, an important thing because it's on 24/7 and it was cheap.

of course barcelona will be stronger than what intel has. it doesn't even matter which cpu is stronger because what it matters is to get the job done and not spend a fortune doing it. the cpu must have a performance over a certain limit (which is quite easily surpassed bu all) and to have a good price/performance ratio.

about the 64 bit being a nonsense. i do not agree with that. for the average user it doesn't yet matter but it will shortly. we have 64bit windows, 64bit Linux, 64bit 3dstudiomax, 64bit anti viruses and firewalls and we almost have 64bit drivers . i bet some had the same attitude when the cpus went from 16 to 32bit.
