- A server just sits there?

Are you only familiar with a file server? Have you ever used a server for databases and OLAP, or webserver with server side processing? Or virtualisation, which is a big thing right now? Client processing is last decade; welcome to true client server applications and the server does much of the processing. What do you want all that power on a client for, when for most of the day it would be idle, when you can have a server sit and do work for multiple users at a time.
