I think you've got it!
I think yours is the first post here that actually shows some understanding of who this product is for. This is not some kind of laptop replacement. And it's not a UMPC. It could be used as a standalone device, but that's not what it's for.

This is a cell phone companion, pure and simple. Got an e-mail you want to write (without risking permanent finger injury from typing on a thumboard)? This could be for you. Want to read that Word document on the go without squinting? This could be for you. If you want to watch YouTube or play Quake 4, look elsewhere.

Advantages of this device:

1) Instant on, without the flaky hibernation mode of a laptop. (Hibernation mode doesn't count as "instant on", anyway. If you're in hibernation mode, you're not starting from "off".)

2) Quick syncing of your e-mail and documents, w/o having to Hotsync. This is something I've been waiting for from Palm. Having to go through a hotsync when all you want is to update your e-mail or install an app is lame.

3) You've suddenly got a decent interface to your cell phone. This is really an extension of the Bluetooth headset idea. It's an interface for your cell phone that makes it truly useful (i.e., you can now send text messages easily without sounding like a teenager).

Thinking of this as a standalone device (e.g., laptop replacement) is just wrong. It's actually more of an interface enhancement like a wireless keyboard and monitor for your phone or PDA, but with sotware enhancements that take advantage of the interface.

I do think the price is a bit high for my tastes, but I think there's a market out there for this, if it's presented correctly.
