Nature Abhors a Vacuum
I have never encountered a level horizontal surface that remains vacant. The real drawback to the Milan is that it will be a surface that attracts clutter. That is, unless it is fitted with a cover for times when it is not in use -- Hey wait a minute, we already have one of those. It is called a laptop. Milan may evolve into an extra large trendy, but soon obsolete notebook. It needs to be vertical. Kind of a magic mirror on the wall. That would make it the fairest one of all.
