no actually nothing like BETA
Many companies developed Blu-ray, like TDK that developed the protective layer
DURABIS II that makes the format a win for me and anyone else that has seen how
much it actually protects.

there are several companies shipping Blu-ray players, and at least 2 or 3 going to
make Hybrid players.

if you look, 7 of the 10 original companies behind DVD are primary members of
the Blu-ray consortium, while only 1 is part of the HD-DVD group (Toshiba).

the smaller studios (like porn outlets) prefer HD-DVD because only the master
part of the process is different, the rest of the production is the same as DVD,
saving them money.
Blu-ray has 2 significant changes in production, mostly the addition of the
DURABIS protective layer at the end which increases cost to the studio... which on
most titles they are not charging more than HD-DVD (when a title is available for
both that can be compared) Do you want something better for the consumer, that
the studios don't gouge the consumer on? or something that is cheaper for the
studio to make?

Having worked at a rental store, where a DVD or game disk is lucky if it goes 3
rents before getting at least a minor scratch, the PS3 blu-ray game disks do not
get scratched, I've seen games with over 20 rents that when the finger prints are
wiped off, still look brand new. That sells blu-ray for many people... the extra
capacity doesn't hurt as well.
