everything you said is so true, and yes it takes a geek to vista.

my friend has vista and i hate it its so damn confusing to get
to the same controls that are in XP
-in the long run i see no diff in standard operation.
except it is amazingly slow and the LAN still don't connect - where everybody else just plugs and plays.


Foot Note;

ive been looking at many Distributions of linux
(gentoo, ubuntu, knoppix )
but Mandriva spring 1 (free) is my favorite, easiest to use
and the rpm packaging is an advantage compared to gentoo compilation times.

i even got mandriva running in "virtual pc 2007" with sound support - took a little effort working with the CLI, but i learned a lot from gentoo(thanks). just look at modprobe.conf for some blacklisted sound entries, [urpmi sndconfig] then
run sndconfig from the desktop terminal select sb16 support
--- the sound quality is primitive but it works.
