WIll it happen in the US? Of course it will.
And what you are seeing now is only the beginning. If you look back it is apparent the concern for privacy has never stopped innovation or the adoption of technology.

Credit cards are a perfect example. When they first came out people were concerned that thier purchaces could be tracked, fear of someone stealing the card were very real, some even seen the day when you would be required to have a credit card for certain things, like renting a car. Guess what, everyone I know has at least one credit card, even if it's only for those emergency situations. As they say, "don't leave home without it"!

One could also look at Cell Phones and see the same thing. Many, many people seen them as an encroachment on their private lives, but again almost everyone carries one today. Heck, lots of jobs require their employees to carry them.

By the way, as RFID tags become cheaper look for them to be included in everything. And to tell the truth, it isn't all bad. I for one would love to have an RFID tag in everyone of my tools. Now where did I leave that hand tool? Hmm, let my PDA locate it for me...
