- Closed development slows things down, not speeds 'em up
-
To me, open source works best for rapidly changing technology where everybody shares. Doing it behind closed doors, patenting everything you can, slows things down and is really only useful to PREVENT inovation by competitors, and force customers to pay high prices.
Because open source developers must put everyting in the light of day the next cog in the machine can see everything and read the logs etc. to understand why something was done. Folks who claim closed source leads to better collaboration between developers obviously don't understand corporate politics.
In a closed system, things are hidden because they can be. Progrmas meet objectives to justify bonuses and those who disclose "how" the objective was met (hint: not legitamitely) are driven out of the machine.
In an open system the ones driven out of the machine are the ones who lie (they lose credibility), in the closed system the rewards go to the best liers. - Posted by: oldskool Posted on: 05/10/04 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
