A "New Concept"
According to IBM's "Z/Os Basics", they have seen a single z-series (mainframe) machine virtualize 600 Linux servers. It did not give any more details on the configuration, but a single mainframe can contain 50 some Central Processors besides specialty processors (like "Integrated Facility for Linux" processors). http://www.redbooks.ibm.com/redbooks/SG246366/wwhelp/wwhimpl/js/html/wwhelp.htm
I could not find the exact page reference in my scan of a few chapters, but I know that I had read it recently.

IBM has been in this business awhile supplying virtualization... Dell and other server makers have a long way to go...
