Not to mention power
Don't forget that 24/7 usage of a processor at full output will use considerably more power than normal usage. I used to run SETI@home on several machines until I noticed that the power usage of a machine jumped up by 70 watts when it was using 100% cpu. Today's GPUs tend to use even more power than the CPUs, so I'd expect a bigger jump in power usage. Thousands of people are footing increased energy bills because of donating their 'unused' CPU time..
