iTMS vs. Connect, iPod vs. minidisc
Apple's iTunes Music Store is making a profit, but only
barely. There's very little money to be made in online
music. Apple knows this. Steve Jobs has said repeatedly
that the purpose of the iTMS is to sell highly-profitable
$499 iPods, not low-margin 99? songs.

As tic swayback rightly points out, Sony's allegiance to their
own failed minidisc technology is the reason that Apple has
nothing to fear. No Sony minidisc player will ever equal the
quality of an iPod, and the best that their Connect store can
hope for is to break even, or generate a tiny profit.
