Problem with the suggestions.
So Dell should respond to its difficulties by adopting the strategies of less profitable companies and competing where those companies do best.

This seems... unlikely to be productive.

Dell needs to control costs, quality, and service. This will improve its reputation.
(But it won't happen if the company relinquishes manufacturing control. Then by definition the company cannot be better at quality, etc than its competitors.)

Dell seems unlikely to follow Apple successfully into either stores or the home electronics business. Apple's advantage is (high-priced) cachet, and that's not the reputation Dell has preferred.

Peripherals yes, appliances no.

Expansion should, in my view, come from parnerships. Connected electronics sold together, even installed together.

If the computer is going to become part of the living room, then Dell can provide the gadgets ready-to-work. And service them when they fail.

Dell can maintain and grow while remaining Dell.
