Win64 may provide a boost
Hey now Mr Cynical, don't be discouraged. I think AMD's market share may increase with the arival of various 64 bit versions of Windows.

We are planning consolidating a ton of databases into one server the next year and an Opteron Server/Win2k3-64/64bit MSSQL is something we are eyeing.

Currently we have a HP9000 which costs a ton of money to maintain. moving it's duties over to an beefy HP Quad-Opteron server would save us about $20,000 a year.

As for the desktop market, Athlon64's have defenitely proven their worthiness against the current intel offerings.

I think the furture holds healthy competiton and prices will continue to favor consumers. happy
