Teach your children to Excel.
Mr. Negroponte gets it wrong.

He wants to make it possible to better teach people who are learning under a tree.

Quoting:

"It is about learning. It is a long-term investment in young children who will not be in the job market for 5 to 10 years at least. Teaching 6-year-olds Excel is criminal."

On the contrary, the Intel group wants the children to learn something useful to them. Excel, part of the world's software, is useful to them:

"And learning business applications isn't generally viewed as bad among educators in emerging markets, said Davies. Often, it's what they want to teach kids."

Never assume the lack of good sense on the part of those trying to improve the lives of their children.

Mr. Negroponte is arguing for a project which will allow him to feel better about what he has done for the world. His competitors want to make the world better.

Mr. Negroponte gets it wrong.
