That does NOT help. The modules for a different kernel, are NOT necessarily
compiled yet, and even if they were, they are not in a location where they can be downloaded automatically. If the company making the driver had already compiled the driver for the new kernel, you would have to go to the site, log-in, download a zip, unpack, . . . .

The problem is that the I/O cards are low volume and they do not have the time to compile the modules for every possible kernel. You can argue until you are blue in the face that they should just release the source code, but it ain't a going to happen. Thus, if you want to use one of the many low volume I/O cards, you can ONLY do it with Windows because of the current state of Linux drivers.

LSB is EXTREMELY important if we are not going to cede the desktop to Microsoft.
