I think maybe we disagree on time frame here. I'm looking to the future more about 10-15 years at least. POTS is good and reliable today and maybe even tomorow but not much further.
I suspect the old phone system will be around much like morse code telegraphs stayed for a very long time. The lines will be there but as time goes on there will be less and less support.
The VOIP idea is just the bridge between the old way of doing things and the new way of doing things. Basing a business off it is a bad idea, captitolizing on it while it last is good idea.
You just have to remember that where you have a phone line today you will have network connection tomorow. Instead of plugging in POTS phone you will plug in a computer. Don't picture that computer as the white box with a monitor though. Picture it more like a combination cellphone/cordless phone and small base that has electrical and network cables to plug in.
So you telco will now have more business in broadband connections while loosing thier business in local and longdistance POTS. They will make money on services much like they do today.
VOIP to dial you're buddies regular phone is just for backwards compatibility.
I think in the end it will feel the same as it is today. And like you mentioned you can have your PC do it for you today for taste of what tomorow has to offer just tomorow you won't be using your PC. You will use a new phone. - Posted by: voska Posted on: 11/05/03 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
