If you want the jobs to stay in the US, cut salaries by 55% and than work, but most will not do that.
This is a short-term view with myopia regarding the long-term consequences. If everybody in the US took a 55% pay cut, there would be 55% less consumer spending to fund profits, 55% less revenues to local governments that provide basic services like police and fire protection, public schools, etc. Is that a better country?
Even the US gov awards contracts to the cheapest priced contractor. It is savings that drive companies, people and governments to get the cheapest price.
Don't overlook the fact that companies and governments have completely different objectives: the objective of a company is to provide the greatest profits to its owners; the objective of a government is to take care of its people (your approach would provide 55% less national defense, too). Many people these days seem to confuse the two.
In a "race to the bottom", who really wins in the long run? The people who are willing to tolerate the lowest standard of living? Is that what America is about now? When Jimmy Carter and other "liberals" told us in the 1970's that we would have to lower our expectations because our growth was unsustainable, they were ridiculed! Now "conservatives" are telling us we make too much money and we need to lower our expectations! What hypocracy!!
