Bad, bad move for Intel
The winner here is SUN. Why Intel would invest resources in SUN is a mystery since SUN volumes are puny incremental business and Intel has much to lose.

(1) Solaris is on it's deathbed as is Sparc. Intel is resuscitating these after years of successfully making it irrelevant.
(2) Intel is also helping AMD as SUN has figured out that AMD is crummy platform vendor - good CPU's, nothing else. Intel is making up the difference with their huge platform capability and AMD will be a beneficiary.
(3) Intel should have just left SUN sink along with AMD. After dumping Intel for AMD 4 years ago, Intel should have just left SUN to die a horrible death with AMD's uncompetitive CPU line which for the next decade will be always playing catch-up to Intel.
(4) Linux should have been the alternative to Microsoft and now adding the Solaris burden (monkey) further dilutes what is clearly the MS alternative.

This goes to show how short sided, PR motivated and struggling the Intel CEO is to keep his job. This is pathetic.
