Innovation in the Accounting Department
Apple is heralded as an innovative company. I believe that their design and marketing staff are very innovative. Hopefully, some of this innovation can spread to the accounting department because charging customers money to activate hardware already present in their system does very little to raise customer satisfaction. If a customer already pays a few hundred dollar price premium to buy the machine, I do not think that they then want to be nickel and dimed to activate functionality on the machine. If I owned one of these machines, I would be even more irritated to find out that I was paying the charge to make the work for the accountants easier.

If they truly don't care about the $2 they are charging then they should not care too much about restating their revenue because restating the revenue does not alter their cash flow from the previous sales of the laptops. Cash flow in the end is what matters.
