If you're happy with what you get then save 50%.
If you spend some time playing with the iPhone (when it's
available) and decide that it's what you want the go for it.
Like cars it's really your choice. As far as the batteries go I
have a feeling that there will be plenty of 3rd party
batteries - just like on the iPod - before the original one
needs replacing.
