Why MS will never be cool
Not that they aren't successful, they're successful as heck.
But they're caught between being the IT backbone of business
and trying to be "hep" with the kids at home.

Business: Stable, Consistent, Not Cool.
Home: New, Fun, Cool

Case in Point: Gates, "this is an IPTV set-top box"
Dude, there hasn't been a "set-top" box in YEARS! How
can you have a set-top box on a flat screen TV?!?!

Here's how you can talk cool: "We've got a network box that
plugs RIGHT INTO your home entertainment system and links
your family photos, vacation movies, favorite TV shows, web
cams, IP phones to grandma's house AND acts as a care free
storage center for all your home PC's as well as connecting
from school or work."

Example2 of not cool: using the word "form factor". My wife
and kids, who comprise the majority of the group that Gates
should be talking to, wouldn't know a form factor from an
unsigned integer. AND THEY SHOULDN'T. It should be MORE
then easy to use, you shouldn't have to learn a whole new
vocabulary to use it.

Example 3: Programming VCR's. Need I say anymore? Case cloase.
