Home users should start with internal LAN protection first
I would think that an inexpensive appliance based Intrusion Detection and Prevention should happen prior to a home server. With all the Black Hat hacking going on today and all the Internet based technology homes are implementing, keeping your home network, in my mind, should be first on everyones list.
