Boondoggle. ...regardless of party
Both parties are talking about it - the question is: who *really* benefits from universal broadband access?

Hardware companies? Yep.
Telcos? Yep.
File sharers? Yep.
Porn purveyors? Yep.
The vast majority of people who do little other than light browsing and getting their mail? Right.

And what would we get?
A massive bill.
Video spam (imagine e-mail and popups with full-motion video).
Applications even more bloated as they "take advantage" of faster connections.

Imagine, in the future you won't be subjected to emails containing pictures of someone's cute kid - you'll be getting segment one of the 10-hour saga of their first visit to the zoo...
