Raid is not a backup.
You also raid your mistakes. The data should be backed up to a second drive with a manual script so the errors are not automatic, after you make sure the original data is good to go. Then you should backup to removable media. Also purchase commercial grade drives instead of consumer grade. Images are good too so you just backup the user data.

I would rather have a solid state drive + removable hard disks but I am not that flush.
