Syntax-Brillian Outlet you failed to mention...

My first awareness of this brand emerged this past July when a flyer came out from our local Office Depot advertising a 27" LCD Syntax-Brillian HDTV "Monitor" for $499 after $150 rebate... As that was a KILLER price at that time (a price not to be matched or beaten anywhere other than online until Black Friday -- and I check ALL the area flyers EVERY week), after I did considerable research about the TV online (I subscribed to the AVS forum and found some people who had that monitor and other HDTVs by Syntax-Brillian, because I wanted to make sure they weren't just PURE JUNK), I bit -- particularly since they promised a year of in-home parts-and-labor warranty. (Those Office Depot rebates, by the way, take roughly 10 weeks to come, so if you bite on one, don't expect your money fast.)

Now I'm REALLY pleased to see the LCD panel came from LG, since they ARE a major brand, but BEFORE Circuit City started carrying Olevia, Office Depot had already offered other rebates, and last I checked was still carrying at least two or three of the smaller models even as Circuit City is getting "on the bandwagon."

I'm reasonably pleased with my 27" TV (700-1 contrast), however having just caught the KILLER DEAL CC offered on the Samsung HL4266W DLP ($899 with FREE home delivery the week before Christmas), it doesn't compare in picture quality or sheer brilliance (although I'm still happy).

The biggest thing, I think -- and probably why this TV was on closeout is that it didn't meet the digital reception requirements that went into effect July 1. It had only an NTSC analog input and not even an HDMI input, only DVI, although it IS a HDCM DVI input, at least.

At any rate, I just thought I should set the record straight that at least here where I live, in Spartanburg, SC, the very FIRST (and by SEVERAL MONTHS) retailer to carry Syntax-Brillian TVs was Office Depot, which got no mention in your article.
