If Apple won't provide info...
... I will.

At our university, the Math department recently mandated
all new desktops and laptops be Macintosh. OS X gives
them access to a *massive* library of Unix apps, and some
of their statistical modeling and most demanding math
calculation software ran only on Unix.

In the past, the department maintained Unix workstations
in a central location, but with the new situation, their Unix
guru configures the new machines and can work on
software testing and updating, rather than having to
manage 6 workstations as they got beat up by users. They
also save the cost of the workstations -- not cheap, I
guarantee you.

Also, OS X has allowed some departments that were veering
toward Windows to pull back to the Mac, and I've had five
Apple notebooks purchased in the past year for people
switching from Windows -- all in Windows dominated
departments.

OS X is easier to configure for the network, and it can share
network resources with almost any Windows client (haven't
tried Win95 yet, but we don't support that anymore
anyway).

Now, if we could just get the PeopleSoft folks to employ
cross-compatability for Macs, we might have even more
converts.
