Performance is what counts...
...Not core count. Sun's eight-core Niagara typically gets beaten by a dual dual-core Opteron system, and gets thrashed by a similar Woodcrest configuration. Somehow I'm betting 16-cores won't really do the trick if Intel and AMD are prepping octo-cores.
