I've been following your thread for a while. At first I was inclined to agree that it was the board - but I dunno. Take all the junk away, and Scott is still a bright guy. I think his ego is way to big that if forced by the board to do something really against his grain - he'd a walked.
I really think he knows his company is on the line, and it was time to make a move. Of the two - MS and IBM, MS is the more logical choice to work with - they don't do unix AND are fighting the good fight (from both of the companies perspectives - heck since it's just us in this thread- why worry about the linux flame boys?) against Linux.
So yeah, I think Scott had a sit down, decided to save his company he had to make a deal. Give the guy Kudos IF this is what happened.
