While Alternative energies are there
They are not numerous enough to support a switch to electric cars. If every switched to 100% electric cars today the power grid would fail. It already fails in hot summers from air conditioners.

So what can we do to speed up the use of Wind, solar and costal power generation? Solar could ease power problems in buildings as every building has roof that is wasted space but that's not cheap and the building owner must foot the bill. The saving are great but most people look short term. They don't look at the investment over 20 years. Same goes for business. Investors don't like inventing billions to get a pay back over 25 years.

This doesn't even take the eviromental concerns into play. If you alter wind paterns you alter weather. What's the impact of taking energy out of the wind, slowing wind down in effect? Will that cause droughts as rain fails to reach areas that it used to or will cause flooding in areas where the moisture stays instead of being blown inland? What's the impact of taking tidal energies, will that change the flow of warm and cool currents in the oceans?

The way I see it is which demon do we want to deal with? Seeing as Global warming is going to happen not matter if switch to electric cars or not so that's not an issue. Where I see electric cars as value is when gas and oil product can't meet demand. At that point it would be more efficient to use gas and oil more efficiently and getting from point A to point B really doesn't seem to be an efficient use of these fuels.
