How true is this statement

"They can get about 100 miles to the gallon, get charged from a wall socket and generally emit fewer greenhouse gases than conventional cars or other hybrids."

Having watch a show on alternative energy sources and how adoption is going extrememly slow at the moment then how can this electric car reduce emissions of greenhouse gases. All I see is that instead of the car producing as much the emissions are just moved to coal and gas fire electric generation plants which depending on thier age can produce more green gas emissions than the just running an more efficient gas powered car.

Not that emissions matter really. Global warming will occur even if cut 100% of our green house gas emmsions. The problem is the emissions. The problem is cutting down rain forests which filter out Co2 and the plant produces a ton of Co2 without our help. The little bit we add is meaningless if we keep cutting down all the forests.
