More like ignorant reality
OEMs use intel because they know the general public is ignorant and believe the hype intel has put on their processor designs. Companies like IBM and SUN have seen the potential of AMD64 technology and full back AMDs design. I agree that there isnt an immediate need for 64 bit systems, but that will soon change since AMD invented a 32/64bit system. This will give companies time develop 64 bit software. I find it funny that Intel all of a sudden decided to come into the 32/64 bit world after the success of the opteron. Its funny because they said the Itanium was the future of 64 bits and the pentium 4 was the future in processors and now they are backing out of the p4 design and going back to the older p3 design (which is used in the Pentium M/Centrino) As far as a new motherboard goes, Intel has changed the p4 so many times that you need a different socket and chipset depending on which generation pentium 4 you have. A current Athlon XP board will run just about every Athlon XP and Duron chip out there. That cant be said for the p4. Oh yeah, I almost forgot. Didnt Intel say that Rambus was the future of Memory and DDR won that battle didnt it. I know the memory bit wasnt exactly relevant, but it shows that Intels decisions are mostly idiotic these days. Bunch of old men that use their money and assets to bully companies into buying their products and supporting them. And that is my two cents.
