So what the heck is your point anyhow?

BIG DEAL. Microsoft sells cluster software. Operative word: SELLS.

These projects are on a BUDGET. They get a fixed amount of money to do a particualar job. Following everything so far? Good.

Now then, you've got two choices. Blow your wad of cash on researching and building a butt kicking speed demon of a cluster or blow it all on run of the mill existing hardware and SOFTWARE?

Given they're working on trying to put a blazingly fast supercomputer together, gee, maybe they might skimp on the software and go with something cheap.. Maybe even FREE?

So put THAT in your crack pipe and smoke it and quit being such a nitwit. Believe it or not, there's method behind IBM and Cray's madness.
