It's a focused approach to enhance the market.
That's why the government supports it. It is good that DARPA is still funding super-computing initiatives. However, exactly who gets what funding changes all the time depending on the details of project proposals and technological advances.

It is too early to call Sun out of the race, as they have numerous excellent technologies in infant states right now. Tomorrow they could bust out and be a runaway leader. Who knows?

The government is being wise with our money (for probably the first time ever) and investing it in the current leaders holding a proven track record.

Come on now, who ever heard of a super-computer before Cray's ... anyone ... anyone ... Bueller? Their a safe bet to be along the cutting edge.

IBM? I think I may heave heard of these guys, don't they hold many of the top slots in the annual super-computer listing? That looks like a pretty safe bet there, too.

Will Sun be invited to the next party? Maybe, let's see what they come up with in the meantime.

Regards,
Jon
