MS doesn't make computer hardware
Oh, could it be the same reason they didn't consider Siebel? Or Oracle? Or Novell? Or Yahoo? Electronics Arts? GM? Or Proctor and Gamble - i.e. they don't make computing hardware? Probably the most powerful computing device MS sells is an Xbox 360 (and IBM/ATI designed the guts of that.)

"Company XYZ chooses AMD CPUS and Seagate hard drives for their PC line! And chooses Lexus and BMW to compete for their executive car contract."
