I hear yah there
I bought a Sony DVD player that died in 19 days, covered by manufactures warranty but I went with a Panasonic instead. It last 2 years 4 months and got a new one under warranty that is still running today.

My Sony reciever has been in for repairs constantly. Thier hard soldering keeps coming loose everywhere. It turns out the reciever for my hometheatre doesn't do well with the vibrations from the subwoofer. Talk about STUPID. The box allows up to 4 subs and it can't handle one sub in room.

Now I have CD player from 1988 that's Sony, it still works. I had a Sony Diskman that lasted me 9 years and I put it through all kinds of abuse.

I've found I have much better luck with Panasonic these days but even with them you need to be carefull. If you buy Panasonic from a place like Best Buy or Future Shop the quality isn't there but if you pay little extra and buy it from a registered Panasonic reseller the quality is there. Used to be this way with Sony too if you bought at the Sony Store but even they have gone downhill.
