Sony isn't the company they used to be. Thier products lack the quality that the Sony name had in the 80s.
Now to address you points. Sony does bring new technology to market but Blue Ray I think will be a failure. First it's from Sony and compete with HD-DVD. Think Beta vs VHS here. Next I think the High Definition DVD market is a dead market. There isn't enough value in the minor quality have many people adopt this technology. Think Audio DVD here, while the quality was amazing on them they were a non seller and people didn't buy it up. No, the next format will be something entirely different, not just an enhanced version of a disc. That will get people excited.
Now 6+ year life cycle. That's too long. If a new console takes over 6 years to come out they aren't doing thier job. Sony didn't have to compete with the PS1 and PS2, now they do. If they don't put out consoles on more reasonable cycle they will have thier lunch eaten by competitors like Microsoft.
As for the Dreamcast, it was the better system when the PS1 came out. It was awesome it just lacked games.
Now I think Sony is doomed in the concole market. It's easy to dominate a market when you're the only one in it, that being game consoles to the 24-35 market. Nintendo overlaps a bit but is primarily aimed at kids. Now how does Sony do with real competition? I personally think they could do well against Microsoft except for few problems. One being the root kit issue, do you trust Sony? Another is the DRM rumors, disk locked to a console, not true but damaging all the same. Then there is whole battery issue too. Sony will have tough time asking higher price than the X-box 360 and getting anyone but the ******** crowd buying. - Posted by: voska Posted on: 11/17/06 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
