They do give it away, like nvidia gives source code for their drivers. But after reading all your posts, Sony knows that you would never understand past the #include directives. So in order to not make you feel that dumb and keep your geek title, they just say that they don't give it away. But it is actually released under the pre-released GPL3. After RMS's complained about it, Sony has even agreed to make the box play non-encrypted blue-ray discs only.
So don't worry man, GPL still rules the world next to Linux and the supreme God RMS
