Of course the sports fans watch things they would not have watched before. Their HDTV is still new and like a new toy, they just have to watch it. Over time it will become passe and viewing will return to normal.
Same is likely true of the non-sports fans. They have to watch something since they spent a boatload of money on the friggin' television are getting gouged monthly by their television provider. You have to watch something to justify the expenditure, even if you have to watch crap you wouldn't normally watch.
As far as being turned into couch potatoes by HDTV.... I don't think so. We were pretty much there already. Most everybody I know sits at home every night with idiotic shows blasting on the TV and the commercials blasting even louder.
I rarely watch television any more. HDTV certainly isn't going to change that. Maybe when they come out with a television that rubs my shoulders and talks nice to me (and automatically mutes commercials), I'll think about it.
>>22 percent of sports fans said they watched sporting events they would not have watched because they now have HDTV, while 22 percent of those who do not count themselves as sports fans reported that they watched more sports after going HD. << - Posted by: shawkins Posted on: 11/16/06 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
