Even more so now
They have just upped the level with HDTV. I remember, I think it was the Onion that had a spoof article stating that American's were getting fatter because strectched wide to fill the screen was obscuring what normal should look like.

I must be totally off the wall. I actually watch less TV now with HD than when I didn't have it. I prefer HD programs, and since there aren't as many channels to pick from (on 4:3 it has to be something I truly want to watch). Amazingly enough, TV takes on less significance as a factor in your world when you get out an actually enjoy the real world.

My GF was addicted, literally get out of her way, don't talk to her crying and cheering all the way through the amazing race. I mamaged to get us away from the TV on two Sunday evenings and that was all it took, all of a sudden, it was just entertainment again. Nice to watch, but not critical to her existence.
