If I intended to buy a game console for christmas and Sony didn't have one available I'd buy and X-Box 360 instead. Sony's loss...
As for helping communities, I'd say they are. Is there not tax on these these units, does supporting local businesses not help? Does having youths and young adults playing games vs doing more stupid activities that lead to crime help the community. I say I'm all for people playing games.
