And the question to be answered is WHY?
The military has always been interested in cutting edge technology, and given their function, they should be. One might have thought that radio was an adequate communcations technology, but the Internet, which we're utilizing to exchange these messages, came to us via ARPA grants.

The autonomous robot race is no different. I fully expect the military to milk the project for ideas they can use, but I also expect some good techology in terms of rescue, space exploration, and post-conflict mine field clearance could come out of it too.

Personally I'm pulling for the high school team. My big accomplishment upon graduating for High School in 1969 was having memorized all the lyrics to Bob Dylan's "Subterranean Homesick Blues".
