So just decide what you need and buy that
For you 80GB is too much storage. Cool, you can buy something with less capacity and you will save money.

My 60GB iPod is less than 2GB from full. I have about 300 CDs on it, which takes up some space, and a lot of audio and video podcasts, which take up the rest. I will probably feel that an upgrade will be worth it to me given my usage patterns and history.

To each their own.
