Gee, I see and use it everyday!
I don't know where you get your opinion from, reading others I suppose, but having had the opportunity to work with installing 802.16 in a small (very hilly and heavy foliage) town I can tell you first hand you are dead wrong.

Speeds are exceptional compared to cable or dsl and the only limit seems to be the backhaul lines (two T-1 lines). Range is around 30 miles (yes miles) and most if not all of the local farmers have jumped on the bandwagong. You see, the local Telco isn't at all interested in running lines that far, even if they could.

Oh, another HUGE plus. The infastructure took less than a week to install and the user does a simple (very simple as in plug in the transciever and set next to an outside wall.) install without the need for a "tech" to come in.

And best of all, three years down the road when something new comes along, they won't be digging up all the streets again...
