Northwood is faster than Prescott
At current clock speeds, yes, for most tasks Northwood is faster than Prescott.. but Prescott scales better, which we'll see as Intel ramps up the clock speed to 4 or 5 GHz.

An Athlon 64 is still the best buy today, though, IMO.
