Re: Intels edge
>>Their "edge", it seems, was derived from their relationship with ms.

I know at one time ms and intel shared information with each other to the detriment of competitors. ms would tell intel about new software and intel could get their chips/motherboards out before anyone else, leaving the others to play catch up.<<

Not entirely. If you recall the article that was posted not so long ago about Intel having free access to any and ALL AMD blueprints and research. In fact, that IS how they managed to get their 32/64 chip off the ground in such a short time and how they are making them compatible with the AMD instruction set.

BUT... You're right in a way. It IS all about having a relationship with Microsoft. In fact, Microsoft announced that XP 64 will be supporting the AMD 32/64 instruction set and NO OTHER. Not too long after that, Intel decides to legally "swipe" AMD's research.

And yes, I too use AMD exclusively when called to build a system for someone and most certainly use them exclusively myself and thus far, everyone concerned is happy.

Er.. Does that like make us AMD shills?
